Friends and Co-workers

Here’s a little plug for a friend and her friend, touring the US of A tasting, supporting and assessing coffee and the communities it touches.

Good luck, Sara and Melanie!

Congratulations are in order for John M. Nonna (D-Pleasantville), for winning the 3rd District seat of the Westchester County Legislature Tuesday.

Nonna edged out the incumbent, Suzanne Swanson (R-Mount Pleasant), who has represented the district for over a decade.

The District is made up of areas in Briarcliff, Greenburgh, Harrison, Mount Pleasant, North Castle and Pleasantville.

The front page of the Oct. 1 Metro Section showed some familiar names, Judith Enck, Pete Grannis, Peter Iwanowicz, Suzanne Mattei and Willie Janaway.

These are all people New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer chose for key Environmental spots in his government last spring.

A former employee of NYS DEC Region 2, I’m glad to see the “Times” take notice once again of the influx of environmental activists into government. Since I no longer work for Mattei and Grannis, I can’t tell you how they’re doing and what they’re up to from an insider’s view, but good luck to all of them keeping New York State clean and fixing its problems.

A BIG congratulatory shout-out to Joe Egan and Nyack High School Drama Club for being one of only six schools selected to stage Andrew Lloyd Weber’s classic “The Phantom of the Opera”.

Director, Joe, and Greg Baccarini, the Club’s choreographer, were once my bosses at New Youth Performing Theater, in Bedford, N.Y. Joe was the set director at Pleasantville High School while my siblings and I were involved with the theater program. And he was wonderful to work with!

In short, Joe has had a great career…so far. Where is it headed? Who knows, but it’s sure to only get better!

Here is a video of Marianne playing a song she wrote (”Snakes on the Sidewalk”) at Bar 169 in New York City Sept. 12. It recently went to YouTube, which I didn’t think I could do. So, enjoy, and bear with the quality–my camera’s still out of commission.
